Down in Hope Valley in the Peak District there's a quite well known hill called Mam Tor which I went to have a brief nosey around.
The area itself is quite easy to get to by car as there's a carpark at its base run by the national trust, and in the past I've used it as a nice stop-off point between walks between Hope and Chapel-en-le-Frith too as its pretty much midway between the two towns.
The hike to the top of the hill isn't too difficult from the carpark, although it can be a bit of a slog coming from other directions to be honest, but it's usually worth it as it provides beautiful views over the nearby countryside. The highest point of the tor is marked by a stone pillar which has a marking on it, each bit pointing to one of the nearby towns.
